Geri Weigum

Geri Marlene Weigum (Ulmer) passed away peacefully at home on March 5, 2022 surrounded by family.

Geri was born on Nov. 25, 1951 in Pendleton to Marion and Gladys (Elwood) Ulmer.

Geri grew up in Hermiston where she graduated Hermiston High School. She met George W. Prather and they wed on January 3, 1970.  They were blessed with two loving daughters. After the marriage ended she met the love of her life.  Naman Weigum and Geri were wed on May 18, 1991.

During her lifetime Geri ran a daycare out of her home. After her youngest daughter was born she accepted a job at JR Simplot. Shortly after starting she changed positions and moved into the scale house. Her love of agriculture grew making this her dream career. Working with the farmers and learning more increased her knowledge and drive. She loved harvest time when she worked the different storages.  After her time at JR Simplot she had several different jobs where she provided excellent customer service to the community.  None of these jobs provided her the joy and satisfaction as working in agriculture.

As much as she loved her career her family always came first and was her life.  She truly enjoyed being a mom but her life was not complete until she became a Grandma.  One of her favorite motto’s was “If I knew grandkids were so much fun, I would of had them first.”

Shopping was one of her favorite activities. Her and Naman enjoyed camping and sitting in camp.  She enjoyed staying back at camp while Naman and the boys went hunting. Cop shows and CNN (politics) were what would be on the television when at home. She loved the beach and spending time with her friends. Celebrating their wedding anniversary was always one of the highligts of her year. Naman and her would go to Red Lobster for all she could eat crab legs.

Geri’s life was filled with health obstacles including ovarian cancer and end stage renal disease. Through it all she would say “Oh Man” when she wasn’t feeling well. She kept her spirits up by keeping the final goal in sight. Her final obstacle was having a stroke.

Geri is survived by her husband of 31 years Naman Weigum Sr.; Daughter Marlene Prather-Dunn (Phillip); Daughter Lori Abbott (James); Step-Daughter Lana Haas (Scott); and Step-Son Naman Weigum Jr. (Teresa).  Grandchildren Brianne, Ethan, Nathaniel, Ashley, Christopher, KC, Jeramy, Sheena, Chase, Brandon, Nick, Jonny, Joey and Hunter. Sister Rita Lalka and Niece Shari Jones.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Marion and Gladys Ulmer; stepdaughter, Penny Martinez; grandson, Justin Martinez; and multiple aunts and uncles, friends and fur babies.

Services will be held  at 2:00 p.m. Saturday March 12, 2022 at Burns Mortuary Chapel, 685 W. Hermiston Ave. Burial will follow in the Hermiston Cemetery. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in care of arrangements.
