Umatilla County Commission Chair Larry Givens has been elected second vice-president of the Association of Oregon Counties.
Givens, a resident of Umapine, was first elected to the Umatilla County Commission in November 2006. He was elected to a second term three years ago.
Active on several state committees, Givens chairs the AOC Energy, Environment and Land Use Committee. He is also chair of the governing board of the Department of Geology and Mineral Industries for the state of Oregon.
Givens, a native of Umatilla County, was raised on a hay, wheat, and cattle ranch. He graduated from Umapine High School in 1967. He received a bachelor of arts degree in 1972 From Northwest Nazarene College in Education and Earth Science. He did his post-graduate work at Washington State University, University of Oregon, and Portland State.
Givens’ fellow commissioner, George Murdock was named vice-chair of the Association of Oregon Counties Human Services Steering Committee.
