Gloria Mullay of Hermiston Passes Away at 85

Gloria Ann Mullay, 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015 in Hermiston.

She was born on Dec. 6, 1929 in Lewistown, Mont., to George and Ann Grieser Sobotta. She graduated from Lapwai (Idaho) High School in 1947 and received her higher education from Lewis-Clark Normal and Eastern Washington University.

On Aug. 19, 1950, she married Patrick E. Mullay in Lewiston, Idaho.

They came to Hermiston in 1959, where she taught fourth grade at West Park Elementary School until her retirement. She loved to travel and attended many reading conferences worldwide. She was able to visit such places as Australia, China, Russia, Switzerland, Turkey and the Ukraine. She continued her travels after retirement whenever possible.

Survivors include sons, Kevin of Portland; Bob (Lois) of Hermiston, and Mick of Kiev, Ukraine; grandchildren, Daniel Mullay of Hermiston, Kayla Mullay of Bainbridge Island, Wash., Stefani Mullay of Hermiston, and Mariah Gatti of West Linn; brothers, Jack and Jerry Sobotta, both of Hermiston, Bob Sobotta of Boise, Idaho; and sister Rosemary Webb of Lapwai, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat; her parents, George and Ann Sobotta; and brothers, Dick Sobotta and George Sobotta, Jr.
