Good Shepherd Health Care System (GSHCS) recently appointed Martha Tibbs as manager of Laboratory Services. A Pacific Northwest native, Tibbs returned home in 2013 after a 26-year stint in the Midwest.

When asked what interested her in the position at GSHCS Tibbs said, “I have always wanted to help others and have been working in many clinical lab settings since 1994. The mission, vision, and values of Good Shepherd also stood out to me, and demonstrated a commitment to provide excellent, quality, and accessible health care for the communities we serve.

“Good Shepherd has a modern, well-equipped laboratory with highly-trained technical and phlebotomy staff. The laboratory has a wide range of in-house capabilities equal to many larger-sized healthcare systems. Laboratories are always undergoing change because of technological advances; therefore, in the future, I have no doubt there will be opportunities to improve or expand our services to better serve the community.”

Chief Operating Officer at GSHCS Jim Schlenker welcomed Tibbs to GSHCS.

“Martha Tibbs comes to us with many years of lab experience, point of care supervisory experience, master’s level coursework in pathology, but most importantly a desire to provide the best care possible for each and every individual the lab encounters,” he said.

Tibbs said she is looking forward to working with the lab staff.

“On my first day of work, it was very obvious the laboratory staff takes their duties seriously,” she said. “The staff is caring, knowledgeable, and professional. We, as a team, want to continue to provide efficient, high quality laboratory services for our physicians to help them properly diagnose and treat, and for each individual patient that entrusts us with their care.”

When not in the lab, you may find Tibbs taking advantage of the many area hiking trails.

“I typically start hiking in February and continue through October each year,” she said. “I have traveled throughout Washington and Oregon to hike new trails. This year I had an opportunity to hike in Alaska; no words can describe its beauty. Mountain biking and paddle boarding are two other hobbies of mine. I enjoy reading, gardening, and working in the yard also.”

Good Shepherd Health Care System provides an integrated laboratory service located at 610 N.W. 11th Street in Hermiston.
