Good Shepherd Health Care System’s (GSHCS) Diagnostic Imaging department has been awarded a Gold Seal of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

An MRI is a test that uses a magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of the body’s organs and tissues. An MRI gives your doctor a different view of the structures in the body by pinpointing problems that cannot be seen using other imaging methods.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.

According to Robert Rose, director of Diagnostic Imaging at GSHCS, achieving this designation is quite the accomplishment and something the community should be proud of.

“This designation requires an in-depth review by the ACR of the quality and safety of the service we provide with MRI,” he said. “In addition, each of our technologists and radiologists have to complete mandatory continuing education credits which give them the knowledge and ability to provide the best service possible for our community. The ACR Gold Seal of Accreditation for MRI is granted to us for a three-year-term. I am proud of our MRI team – Jason Davis, Jane Morton, Dave Esslinger, and Randy Mallory – for being instrumental in helping us achieve this designation.”
Rose said this isn’t the only gold accreditation the hospital has received.

“We actually have three modalities that have Gold Seal Accreditation with the ACR, Computerized Tomography (CT) Scan, Mammography, and now MRI,” he said. “I am proud of our team for the excellent quality, and customer service they provide to our community.”

Gold Seal Accredited MRI, CT, and Mammography exams are now available at Good Shepherd Health Care System’s Diagnostic Imaging Department located at 610 NW 11th Street in Hermiston. ‘

Diagnostic Imaging services can be scheduled by calling 541-667-3520. Diagnostic Imaging also offers Bone Density Scan, Echocardiography, Nuclear Medicine, and Ultrasound services. For a complete description of each the services offered by diagnostic imaging, visit the hospital website.
