Good Shepherd Medical Center’s $15 million expansion of its surgical spaces is making progress and should be complete by the end of the year.

The project includes two 750-square-foot surgical suites and will partially construct two additional suites, which will be completed and outfitted in the coming years.

The 23,000-square-foot project will quadruple the size of the hospital’s surgical central supply space which stores and distributes surgical instruments and disposable items. The project will also add 14 day surgery rooms for procedure preparation and recovery.

A central utility plant will be constructed behind the hospital as part of the project. The utility plant will connect to the hospital via an underground trench dug through the parking lot at the northeast end of the campus.

The project also includes the construction of a building that will house air conditioning units, air handlers, boilers, vacuum pumps, liquid oxygen tanks and other equipment necessary for the hospital’s daily operations.
