HERMISTON, OR – Good Shepherd Health Care System (GSHCS) is pleased to welcome Dr. Garrett Pool, Board-Certified & Robotic-Trained General Surgeon, who is now accepting patients at Good Shepherd General Surgery, located at 620 NW 11th St, Suite M-202, in Hermiston.

“Dr. Pool is an exceptional addition to our General Surgery team,” said Art Mathisen, GSHCS President & CEO. “His breadth of experience and commitment to patient-centered care will greatly benefit the communities we serve.”

Dr. Pool brings 25 years of medical experience, beginning his career in Family Medicine before pursuing advanced training in General Surgery. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine in Portland, OR, and a Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Rocky Mountain College in Billings, MT.

With a focus on meeting the needs of rural communities, Dr. Pool offers a broad range of general surgical services so patients can receive high-quality care close to home. His expertise includes hernia repair, gallbladder and appendix surgery, colon and bowel procedures, cancer surgeries, breast surgery, and treatment of skin lesions. He also performs endocrine procedures such as thyroid and parathyroid surgery, as well as colonoscopies, upper endoscopies and surgical treatment for reflux and hiatal hernias.

“I’m excited to join the medical community at Good Shepherd and to provide a wide range of surgical services so patients can stay close to home for their care,” said Dr. Pool. “Our goal is to be accessible and responsive to the needs of this community.”

Dr. Pool is highly trained in advanced robotic-assisted surgery, including the state-of-the-art da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System, enabling a new level of precision and control in minimally invasive procedures. “Robotic surgery truly represents the gold standard for world-class care, and Good Shepherd is proud to offer multiple robotic surgery platforms to patients across Northeast Oregon,” said Dr. Pool. This leading-edge technology allows for smaller incisions, reduced pain, and significantly less trauma to surrounding tissue, often resulting in shorter hospital stays, faster recovery times, and a quicker return to daily life for patients.

Outside of his practice, Dr. Pool enjoys spending time with his family, playing guitar and bass, reading, traveling, hiking, and biking.

Dr. Pool joins General Surgeons Dr. Marques Johnson, Dr. David Maccabee, and Dr. Ann Rust at Good Shepherd General Surgery.
