The 18th Annual Night of Excellence Summit Awards Celebration was the culmination of this year’s Health Care Service Excellence Conference (HCSEC) held at the Hyatt Regency, in San Antonio and Good Shepherd Health Care System (GSHCS) was the recipient of four awards.
GSHCS had four Pinnacle Award winners – one of which received a Summit Award. Recipients of these awards were nominated by their peers at GSHCS.
The Summit Award is the highest award of excellence presented at the HCSEC. It is awarded to qualified, innovative, and progressive individuals, teams, and healthcare facilities who made outstanding progress towards improving the patient experience and staff engagement. Individuals, teams, and organizations must be nominated to be eligible for a Summit Award.
In 2017, the Summit Awards committee received over 265 nominations from 20 different healthcare organizations spanning 10 states – 54 of the nominations were chosen as Pinnacle Achievers (the best of the best), and 15 of those were presented with a Summit Award.
Summit Awards are presented by Custom Learning Systems (CLS) during the annual HCSEC, a conference dedicated to delivering evidence-based solutions to help healthcare organizations improve the overall patient experience.
Below are the award winners from GSHCS:

2017 Summit Award Recipient

In addition to the Pinnacle Awards and Summit Award, GSHCS received 39 Breakthrough Awards, recognizing and celebrating exceptional contributions to world-class healthcare customer satisfaction.
These awards are based on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey that hospitals participate in to evaluate their quality of care and customer satisfaction against their peers. GSHCS has seen a significant improvement in customer satisfaction based on how hospital consumers complete the survey. Much of this improvement can be tied to the Service Excellence Initiative launched in 2016 to engage all employees at every level to be mindful of what our customer’s need, want, and desire from their healthcare experience and work toward the same goal – of becoming the health care system of choice for the communities served by GSHCS.
