Greg Brown Passes Away at 61

Gregory W. “Greg” Brown of Pendleton died on Sept. 6, 2023 in Portland at the age of 61.

He was born on Nov. 16, 1961 in Omaha, Neb. to M. Freeman Brown and Pauline Caldwell Brown.

Greg attended schools in Nebraska before his family moved to Pendleton, graduating from Pendleton High School in the class of 1980. He served in the Oregon National Guard until his honorable discharge. Greg worked at the Red Lion where he met the love of his life, Marilyn Jones. They were united in marriage on April 23, 1988 in Pendleton. He worked at Fleetwood for a short time before starting his 30-plus-year career at EOCI as a corrections officer.

Greg was an active member of the Pendleton Church of God. He enjoyed history, reading, sudoku puzzles, writing, playing croquet, music and hot tub. Greg was an avid Huskers fan who loved his Lord Jesus and cherished as much time with his family as possible.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marilyn Brown, Pendleton; sons, Nathan Brown (Samantha), Slana, Alaska and Dakota Brown (Emily), Pendleton; daughter, Lindsey Straughan (Nick), Pendleton, Jason Wilson, Seattle, Wash., Mindy Mudgett, Pendleton, Tiffani Wilson, Kennewick, Wash.; brothers, Buster Brown, Omaha, Neb., Sterling Brown, Irrigon, Dale Brown, Claymore, Okla. and Paul Brown, Omaha, Neb.; sisters, Joy Price, Broken Arrow, Okla., Lynn Dulaney, Omaha, Neb., Raylene Ellis, Pendleton, Susie Brown, Omaha, Neb. and Karen Brown Smith, Pendleton; his favorite mother-in-law, June Jones; grandchildren, Adrian Brown, Slana, Alaska, Autumn Brown, Slana, Alaska, Aislyn Brown, Slana, Alaska, Zelie Brown, Pendleton, Azariah Brown, Pendleton, Evangeline Brown, Springfield, Tyler Mudgett, Cierra Mudgett, Cody Mudgett, Trent Reyes and Trevor Reyes, Amiyah Mudgett and Kailor Mudgett; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Greg was preceded in death by a son, Zach Brown; his parents; and a brother, Carlton Brown.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023 at 3 p.m. at the Pendleton Church of God.

  1. I was really hoping to meet up with you before things went this far anyhow, all the best my friend. I hope you had a good time going out. Sounds like your wife from Maryland was similar great lady anyways, I guess I won’t get to meet you again, but I will be your wife, so thank you for the memories. I still remember graduation especially with my dad we did shots of Shots of southern comfort.
