Harry Dyer Passes Away at 76

Harry R. Dyer of Hermiston passed away on Oct. 26, 2023 with his wife, daughter Reese and son Joseph by his side in Walla Walla, Wash. at the age of 76 after battling Parkinson’s disease.

He was born on Sept. 14, 1947 in Baker City to Harry and Gladys McCoy Dyer.

Harry was raised and graduated from Stanfield High School in the class of 1966. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1968. Harry married Kim Grohs on Feb. 16, 1980. They lived in Umatilla before moving to Hermiston, where they have lived since. He worked for Lamb Weston for 40 years.

Harry enjoyed fishing, hunting, long mountain drives, gardening, watching and feeding the birds, watching sports (loved football), poking fun, making own shot gun shells, spending time with animals, cherished time with his grandkids and watching all activities that they were involved in.

He is survived by his wife, Kim Dyer; children, Reese Kestler (Randy), Joseph Dyer (Jessica) and Heather Smith (Casey); sister, Irene Walchli; grandchildren, Breannah, Ryland, TeeJay, Madden, Bryan, Matthew, Aubree, Carly, Myleigh, Devon, Darian and Ethan; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and long-haired dachshund, Chloe. Harry was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Stan Dyer, David Dyer, Jerry Dyer, Richard Dyer, Tommy Calder and Johnny (Calder) Minor.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston.
