Thursday afternoon saw the opening of a new learning center in honor of a woman who “dedicated her life to serving children and families.”
The Hermiston Chamber of Commerce was on hand Thursday to help Umatilla-Morrow Head Start officially open the Cathy Wamsley Early Learning Center on Second Street in Hermiston.
Head Start’s Associate Director Dan Daltoso said Wamsley worked to make sure “Head Start had a lifetime presence in Umatilla County.”
The new early learning center has four classrooms – two for children up to age 3 and two for children ages 3-5 and hopes to serve up to 70 children in the facility with classes beginning next week.
“This is a great way to honor Cathy and her legacy,” said Head Start Executive Director Aaron Treadwell.
Wamsley, who passed away in December 2021, was dedicated to creating opportunities for children within her community and advocating for thei families. She began her career at Umatilla-Morrow Head Start in the fall of 1978 and served as its executive director from 1986 to her retirement in 2014.
This is so wonderful and honor well-deserved.
Cathy truly was dedicated to the children, staff and successful outcome of Head Start.
What a nice way to remember Cathy and her dedication.
