Umatilla Morrow Head Start has launched its Summer Food Program.
The lunch program is free for all children from infants to 18 years old. It is held each weekday from June 7 to Aug. 12, beginning at 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. each day. The lunch is served in the lawn area on the east side of the Umatilla Morrow Head Start Administrative Office, located at 110 East Fourth St., in Hermiston. Parking is available on Main Street.
Spin art, pipe cleaner art and a beads day are all on the schedule. Parents can get information on nutrition and receive a free dental screening on June 22, and a free car seat check on June 23. On June 15, the young citizens can eat and meet with Hermiston Mayor Dave Drotzmann, and learn about public safety when police officers come for lunch on June 30.
“The Summer Food Program is an opportunity to fill in nutrition gaps that some children experience during summer school closures,” said UMCHS Executive Director Maureen McGrath. “During their time with us, we wanted to make sure they had fun as well as a good meal, and provide some valuable information for their parents.”
