The Kamiakin Braves scored early and often Friday night on their way to a dominating 54-6 win over the Hermiston Bulldogs at Lampson Stadium in Kennewick.
The Braves (1-1) raced out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter and went into the locker room leading 40-0. It was another disappointing turnaround for the Bulldogs, who defeated Kamiakin, 28-7, a year ago on their way to the school’s first-ever state championship. Hermiston also lost a week ago to Hanford, a team it had no trouble with a year ago.
Kamiakin quarterback Zach Borisch threaded the Bulldogs’ defense with an efficient 7-for-9 passing night for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Hermiston (0-2) had trouble all night at the line of scrimmage, as Braves’ running back Jethro Questad churned out 103 yards on 10 carries and three scores.
Hermiston quarterback Dayshawn Neal was just 4-for-10 for 23 yards in the air and an interception. He scored Hermiston’s only touchdown, however, on a 20-yard run late in the game.
The Bulldogs will travel to Springfield on Friday in a rematch of last year’s game in which Hermiston came away with a 28-21 win at home.
