  1. Part of the deal was a new, larger type grocery store would be coming in with Ranch and Home. In fact, that was one of the conditions for them building here.

However, the Mayor, City Council and Chamber of Commerce let them eliminate the grocery store, which Hermiston and the surrounding community really want and need. When I started asking questions why no grocery store, the Mayors office told me “we can’t force businesses to come here”, I also got the newspapers take on the situation “Hermiston can’t get electricians to work here”. I have never heard the Mayor, City Manager, City Council or Chamber Commerce address this since the grocery was a no show.

I think you folks do a p_ss poor job of letting Hermiston grow. The population is going gangbusters (until the railroad shutdown) but real, new businesses are almost unheard of. We don’t seem to have room for a Target, Burlington Coat Factory, Winco, etc.? You didn’t even want the food trucks ($500.00 permit fee) here until people complained. Other cities, smaller than Hermiston seem to get things done. You’ve got a hospital and medical center but no doctors?? Life Flight does a great business here. You spent lots of taxpayer dollars on the new EOTEC, the event center but we send Hermiston High School Graduation Ceremony out to the Tri-Cities and the Tri-Cities ain’t doing that for free. They aren’t even nice to Oregonians for the most part.

I love Hermiston and the surrounding area but like the rest of the USA the politicians need to be replaced with real, “get your hands dirty” people.
