The Hermiston City Council voted unanimously to adopt the city’s 2022-23 fiscal budget Monday night’s meeting.
The 2022-23 budget is $65,273,616 – about $3.2 million or 4.7 percent less than the current 2021-22 budget. In his City Budget Message last month, City Manager Byron Smith said the reason for the decreased budget is due largely to some significant projects that were completed during the current budget year. Those include the South Hermiston Industrial Park LID, resurfacing the airport and several water and sewer projects.
The new budget includes a 2 percent increase in the cost of living adjustment for all city employees.
The city’s 2022-23 general fund budget ($16,705,588) is 2 percent above the current budget. The city is proposing the addition of two police officer positions, one of which will be partially funded by a grant.
The budget will not reflect any increased taxes to the citizens. Smith said the city is at the maximum it is allowed to levy in terms of property taxes ($6.086 per $1,000) which hasn’t changed in about 30 years.
The budget is available online.
