A Hermiston company has won a contract worth more than $2 million to do work on the John Day Dam.
According to HydroWorld.com, Ross-Brandt Electric Inc., received the contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for $2.07 million to supply electrical equipment for the 2,160-megawatt John Day powerhouse.
The work will involve replacing and upgrading the DC and AC system, including replacing and upgrading batteries, battery racks, chargers, switchboards, panel boards, feeders, and feeder breaks of the system, according to the website. The system is used to provide uninterruptible power to critical station service loads in the event of a power failure.
