The Hermiston City Council approved more than $72,000 in grants to eight local organizations during its meeting on Monday.
The grants were recommended by the Transient Room Tax Recreation Projects Grant Committee.

The council also gave two organizations another shot at receiving grant funding. The Hermiston Cinco de Mayo committee and the Hermiston Junior Bulldogs Youth Football Club also made requests for funding but their applications came 19 days after the deadline.
The Cinco de Mayo committee is seeking $10,000 and the football club is seeking $6,000. Councilor Roy Barron requested that the council send those two applications back to the grant committee for re-consideration. The council approved the request in a 5-2 vote.
