Monday night’s Hermiston City Council was gaveled to order promptly at 7 p.m. Twenty-five minutes later, the meeting was gaveled to a close.

The swiftness of Monday’s council meeting was the result of an agenda that lacked any ordinances, resolutions, public hearings or presentations.

Instead, the council voted to announce vacancies on four committees, to approve August expenditures and to approve the minutes of the previous council meeting and last week’s Hispanic Advisory Committee meeting.

The city has two openings on its Parks and Rec Committee and its Airport Advisory Committee, and one opening on its Hispanic Advisory Committee, however, the deadline to apply for those committees was Monday, Sept. 28. The city also has an opening on both its Budget Committee. The deadline to apply for that committee is Oct. 14.

Parks and Recreation Director Larry Fetter informed the council that it is working with the Bureau of Reclamation to develop a dog park near Riverfront Park. That will likely come before the council in the near future.

The next council meeting is set for Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.
