The Hermiston Education Foundation has awarded more than $17,000 in grants to local teachers for classroom projects.
The foundation helps provide funding for projects and programs that are beyond the financial scope of classroom budgets. Grants are awarded in the spring and fall.
Among the grant recipients were Hermiston High School band teacher Paul Dunsmoor, who received $2,000 to help pay for the band’s trip to the 2015 Holiday Bowl; Melody Bustilos of HHS, who received $1,000 for freshman transition mentoring; Melissa Doherty at Rocky Heights Elementary School, received $1,500 for five mini iPads for her class; Glen Stelson of Armand Larive Middle School, who received $1,800 for 6 mini iPads; Josh Rist of HHS received $1,000 for music for a choral library, and $2,500 for a Kawaii keyboard; Ericka Keefauver of HHS received $1,000 to purchase 32 tickets for two plays; and Robert Greybeck of HHS received $900 for a woodshop lathe.
In all, 16 grants were awarded to Hermiston teachers totaling $17,650. For more information on the Hermiston Education Foundation, visit the foundation’s website.
