Hermiston is building its lead against the city of Portland in the contest to win $20,000 worth of playground equipment.
As of 6 a.m. this morning, Hermiston had 10,193 votes while Portland had 8,579 with Tillamook third with 1,504 votes.
Whichever of the three cities has the most votes by March 20 will win the equipment. If Hermiston wins, the new equipment will be installed at Sunset Park, which is currently closed due to old, unsafe playground equipment.
