The Hermiston City Council is giving Ranch and Home some more time to complete its project by amending an agreement with the developer.

The council voted Monday night to extend the deadline for completion of Phase 1 of the project from Jan. 1, 2018 to June 1, 2018. The council also agreed to extend the deadline from the completion of Phase II from Oct. 1, 2018 to Oct. 1, 2019.

Phase I is the completion of the actual Ranch and Home store being constructed on Highway 395 near the Walmart Distribution Center. Phase II is the recruitment of a grocery store on the property.

Developer George Dress has informed the city that he is having difficulty finding electricians to complete the Ranch and Home store. Dress told the city progress on identifying a grocery store has been slow.

According to the original agreement, Dress needed to meet the two deadlines in order to receive incentive packages of $107,800 if the Ranch and Home store opened by Jan.1 and $185,000 if a grocery store was recruited by Oct. 1, 2018.

The $107,800 comes in the form of reimbursements for system development charges, sewer costs and building permit fees. The $185,000 would be reimbursement for road development costs.
