Robotics Club – The Robotics Team succeeded in scoring a spot for themselves in the Oregon First Tech Challenge State Championship, to take place in Portland on Feb. 28-29. They will now be working on improving their robot’s design and ensuring that it is in top condition for the event.

Winter Assembly – On Wednesday, Hermiston High had an assembly to recognize the athletes of the winter sports. The gathering also acknowledged the HHS Marching Band, which took home multiple trophies from their San Diego trip last December.

Awareness! – Chess Club is raising money for blood cancer. A donation box will be available in the Commons during lunch, and any Chess Club member is willing to collect money from those who do not have the time in their lunch period. Pennies are just as acceptable as dollar bills; anything helps.

2016 Youth Trip Washington D.C. – Umatilla Electric Cooperative announced the two winners of the 2016 scholarship recently, one of which was Hermiston High School Junior Lauren Santoyo. Lauren is a very involved student who applied with a “why not” attitude and was thrilled at the prospect of attending the trip. “I think it’d be amazing to just meet people from around the country,” Santoyo said. “They’re going to teach us a lot about our community and how we can help it, so I really want to contribute to that, as well.” Katelyn Bass, a junior at Ione Community School, also received the award; the two will be going with roughly 1,500 other students from across the country to visit the nation’s capital and meet many representatives and other speakers.

IMPACT – If a student plans on participating in a spring sport this year, they will need to have complete the IMPACT Test. They will be held Feb. 23-24th from 3:45 – 6 p.m.
