Hermiston High School has a couple of new coaches after the hiring of Troy Benson as the head girls golf coach and Rylee Christianson as the fast-pitch softball head coach.
Benson has assisted with the girls golf program for the past two years. Before relocating to Hermiston from Wyoming, Benson coached basketball at the middle and high school level.
Christianson’s coaching experience includes softball, volleyball, and basketball, both here in the Columbia Basin and on the Oregon Coast. Most recently, she has coached youth softball teams with the Washington Angels program in the Tri-Cities, Wash.
“HSD is very excited to bring Coach Benson and Coach Christianson on this spring,” said Hermiston School District Athletics and Activities Director Larry Usher.
“Both are strong coaches in their sport, and we believe they will be great leaders for their student-athletes. It will be an exciting spring!”
Benson is originally from western Colorado, where he attended Western State Colorado University and graduated in 2014. He and his wife Hailee have two dogs, Gus, a Goldendoodle, and Juno, a Shih Tzu.
Christianson grew up on the Oregon Coast. She attended Western Oregon University, where she played basketball, and she graduated in 2012. She and her husband Bennett have three children, Mia, 9, Kalli, 7, and Luke, 5.
