The Hermiston Public Library is expanding its hours from 46 to 50 hours a week.

The library currently opens its doors at 11 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and at 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Beginning on Jan. 2, the library will open at 10 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

Library Director Mark Rose said during the past year, the Hermiston Public Library conducted community-based strategic planning. One of the goals that resulted from that process was a review of the hours the library is open to the public.

“With our growing community we see this as a benefit to families with small children and those needing access to the internet for work, housing and other needs,” said Rose.

Rose said the library’s story time programs will also be adjusted.

“The Wednesday morning programs will continue, however, we will move our Friday morning program to Thursday morning beginning Jan. 3,” he said.
