The Hermiston Public Library will reopen on-site services on weekdays today, and will add several new programs for children and adults.
Due to construction in the library basement, the building is only accessible through the Gladys Avenue entrance. Face coverings are required for anyone school-age and older to enter the building.
The library will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Fridays. Seating and computer access will be limited, but WiFi is available 24-7. Call 541-567-2882 for more information.
Curbside pick-up will still be available for those who don’t wish to enter the library.
Along with regular media borrowing and other services, the library is introducing new programs to its fall lineup:
- QR Code Scavenger Hunt. The library beaver, Bucky, decided to go on a little adventure – and now we don’t know where he is! Can you help us catch him? The first QR code will be found at the front of the library on Friday, Sept. 25. Solve the riddle to find the next QR code until you find Bucky! The scavenger hunt will conclude on Oct. 4.
- Take and Make Crafts for Adults. Pick up a kit on the fourth Tuesday of each month with everything you need to create a beautiful piece of art at home.
- Pen Pals Program. Kids can write a letter or draw a picture and send it to the library, and library staff will respond to every letter received. Letters can be dropped off at the curbside pick-up cart during library hours or sent to HPL Pen Pals Program, 235 E. Gladys Ave., Hermiston, 97838.
- Bookworms“Fall Harvest” Reading Challenge. Every bookworm needs their brain food! Feed your mind by logging the minutes you read through Nov. 30. As you log minutes you will earn new badges and virtual tickets, which can be used to enter prize drawings. There are four grand prizes along with other drawings for all grade levels. - Smithsonian Exhibit on Votes for Women. The library will be displaying a collection of 10 posters celebrating the 19th Amendment through the month of November.
