Hermiston Police Chief Jason Edmiston reported officers on New Year’s Eve at approximately 6:30 a.m. responded to a residence on the 100 block of Southwest 12th Street on a call about a domestic dispute underway. While en route, officers were advised the male half of the dispute had crashed his vehicle into the residence.

Officers arrived and detained Handforth, according to Edmiston, and during their investigation learned Handforth had recently moved out of the residence but returned that morning. He banged on doors and windows, then crashed his 2015 Dodge Challenger into the southeast corner of the home.

Based on statements and evidence police collected, including a handgun and a spent casing, police arrested Handforth and booked him into the Umatilla County Jail in Pendleton.

Edmiston said the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the investigation.
