The Hermiston Masonic Lodge plans to expand its Bikes for Books program to all five elementary schools in town.
The Masons will purchase and donate five bikes to each school for their reading incentive program. To raise money for the bike purchases, the Masons will use a city-owned parking lot across from the Hermiston Post Office and charge fair-goers to park there during two days of this summer’s fair.
Masonic Lodge member Jim Leitch received permission Monday night from the Hermiston City Council to use the parking lot for its fundraiser.
The Masons had been providing bikes to three of the elementary schools.
“We want to get more bikes to more kids and this will help us do that,” Leitch said.
