The Hermiston Parks and Recreation Department is seeking public input for the design of the city’s new skatepark. Skateboarders, skaters and neighbors are invited to a design workshop on Thursday, Jan. 24 from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. at Hermiston High School.

The city has contracted with California Skateparks for design and construction of the facility. Representatives will be on hand to guide attendees through the design and concepts and gather public feedback.

The workshop takes place in room 151 at the high school, 600 S. First St. For more information, call the parks department at 541-667-5018.

  1. what’s wrong with the one we already have is it falling apart? I think the place you are proposing should be left alone so if there is a future need for the fire station parking etc. we were laughed at when we asked for a place to fly our planes, there are more people looking for a place to fly then a few kids to skateboard

  2. Skateboarding parks here in Portand have been very successful for our young people. I applaud Hermiston for looking out for the younger and upcoming generations.

  3. Outstanding. We tried to make this happen in the late 80’s. The Stark Boyz. (Men now) have once again picked up the gauntlet for the kids in the Herm. Way to go. Good luck!

  4. As a parent of grown boys 28/ 30 who have continued their love of skating. The Johnson Boyz who began skate boarding when they were around the age of 5. Our little skate park has lacked for those in our community that love this sport. Or for parents that want a safe park for their children to learn to skate.
As a mom that spent many hours trying to get our city to consider a new park in our community, I’m excited that it is finally happening. I feel that there has always been a negative connotation associated with boarding which is a shame it is a wonderful way for young boys and girls to get involved in a life long sport and a way to focus on your inner self. Please consider an area for young boarders just starting out. The model at The Park in Coeur ‘d Alene is a beautiful park
