The Hermiston Police Department is seeking information regarding a series of hit-and-run incidents on the night of Friday, Dec. 27.
According to the police department, officers responded to multiple hit-and- run incidents involving the driver of a white Honda Civic with Washington plates. Through the course of the investigation, officers identified the Honda and its driver. The department also found video of the Honda rear-ending a black or dark colored SUV at the intersection of W. Elm Avenue and Highway 395 just after 9 p.m.
The HPD reported that the SUV was stopped in the eastbound turn lane, facing east on W. Elm behind a silver pickup. When hit, the SUV was nearly pushed into back of the pickup. When the driver of the SUV attempted to contact the driver of the Honda, the Honda drove around the SUV, through the intersection and into the grass near McDonald’s before leaving that scene. The SUV attempted to follow the Honda following the crash.
The HPD wrote the following on its Facebook page:
“Here’s where you come in . . . we would like to speak with the driver of the SUV. The SUV’s driver is in no trouble, we would simply like to identify him or her and get their statement. Attached is a photo of the dark SUV involved. (We know, it’s not the best photo but it’s the best we have.)
If you were the driver of, or a passenger in, a dark SUV or cross-over rear-ended at the intersection of W. Elm and Highway 395 just after 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, or if you know who’s SUV that is, please call HPD at 541-567-5519, option 1, and ask to speak with an officer. Reference HPD Case #24-3129.
Don’t drink and drive, do the right thing – even when it’s hard, and know we are here when you need us.”
