The Hermiston Public Library offers several ongoing programs and meetings designed for young children, teens and adults. Because of the community’s help, these programs are free to attend.
Here’s a rundown of what the library offers on a weekly and monthly basis:
Baby Boogie – This lap-sit program is for infants up to 24 months and includes activities that stimulate and teach your baby and provide a bonding experience. It takes place on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. downstairs in the children’s room. Entrance is through the back door of the library.
Tappin’ Toddlers – This program is for 24- to 48-month-olds and is held on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. as a continuation of Baby Boogie. It introduces toddlers to a variety of hands-on learning activities. Entrance is through the back door of the library.
Story Time – This program is for preschoolers and is held twice weekly, on Wednesdays at 11:15 a.m. and Fridays at 10:15 a.m. The story time and activities center around a different theme each week. Weekly themes are listed on the library website calendar.
Teen Advisory Council (TAC) – This council provides input about services, programs and library materials for teens. Council membership is open to teens in grades 6-12. Meetings are held on the third Monday of the month at 4 p.m. To join, download the TAC brochure from the library website for the application. The council now has a Facebook page accessible from the website.
Photography Club – This club meets every second Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
Bookminders – This adult book club meets every second Wednesday of the month at 11:30 a.m.
The Friends of the Library – This group of community members promotes the library in general and provides financial support and donated time. They meet quarterly, in February, May, August and November. Their meeting time is at 6 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month. Members of the public are welcome to attend and are encouraged to pick up a membership form any time at the library and get involved.
