Joan Irene (Darby) La Plant died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 at her home in Hermiston at the age of 67.
She was born March 5, 1946 at The Dalles to Marvin Earl & Irene Augusta (Whorton) Darby. She was raised in The Dalles where she was involved in 4-H and graduated from The Dalles High School. She moved to Hermiston and worked at Burnham’s Department Store. Joan met and married David La Plant in Hermiston. They lived in Enterprise for three years before moving back to Hermiston.
Joan worked at Simplot and for the Hermiston School District as a cook at Sunset Elementary and at Armand Larive Middle School. She was known as “Momma Joan” to many for being a good listener. She was a former member of the Jaycee’s. Joan enjoyed being an artist, an antique collector and painting holiday windows.
She is survived by daughter, Lisa (Mark) Moore of Hermiston; son, Brian (Kimberly) La Plant of Hermiston; and two grandchildren, Kassi and Kayla La Plant.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, David La Plant.
Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014 at 11 a.m., at the Hermiston Cemetery.
