The Hermiston Rotary Club has completed construction of a new pavilion at Harrison Park, the final large piece in the rejuvenation project that also included three new basketball courts installed this summer.
Volunteers from the Rotary Club dedicated more than 160 hours to completing the pavilion, which is now open to the community. This park, located at the south end of Northwest 13th Street, was renovated as part of a collaborative project to expand recreational opportunities in Hermiston neighborhoods.
The park upgrades were made possible through funding by Made to Thrive and were championed by Carlisle Harrison, the park’s namesake and a member of the Hermiston Rotary Club. The new amenities have been added to a playground and green space at the park, which connects to the Oxbow Trail between Riverfront Park and the Hermiston Butte.
“The contributions of local clubs and organizations are what make projects like this happen in our community,” said Brandon Artz, Director of Hermiston Parks & Recreation. “These amenities not only improve our parks but also enrich the lives of our youth and families. It’s inspiring to see the community come together to make such a meaningful difference. We’re grateful for the vision and dedication of people like Carlisle Harrison and the Made to Thrive organization.”
Harrison Park’s upgrades are part of the ongoing effort to create engaging and accessible spaces for residents of all ages in all areas of Hermiston. The new pavilion is expected to serve as a gathering place for events and community activities. Benches, signage and other amenities will be added in the final phase of the project.
