The Hermiston School Board made a change to the 2022-23 school calendar during its meeting on Monday.
The board took action to change the elementary (grades K-5) school calendar for 2022-2023, making Sept. 6 as the start date for elementary students.
The change will accommodate the move into the new elementary buildings and allow for a more targeted open house process to invite families and students to see their new school. The start date for all other grades is Aug. 29.
The district is currently building a new elementary school, Loma Vista Elementary School, as well as replacing Rocky Heights Elementary School.
The board also heard a report from the Teaching & Learning Department about its thorough process for review and selection of curriculum materials in the subjects of English Language Arts and English Language Development. Materials were adopted for both subjects in two sets: K-5 and 6-12 grades.
