The Hermiston School Board broke ground Tuesday on the first of several capital construction projects – the new Hermiston High School softball field facility.
The school board, along with Hermiston School Superintendent Dr. Tricia Mooney and the HHS softball team helped turn the first shovels for the project.
The facility will feature two new softball fields, a new parking area, underground utility work, new pathways, a combined precast concession and restroom building, four dugouts, and a precast storage building. The project is expected to cost around $2.4 million and is part of the 2019 voter-approved $82.7 million bond.
Other projects include replacing Rocky Heights Elementary School, building a new elementary school (Loma Vista Elementary School) on district property off Theater Lane, a high school annex, and improvements to parking and pick-up lanes at some of the existing schools.
