The Hermiston School District will conduct a second community attitude survey the first week of October regarding the proposed Hermiston School District facilities bond.
The survey is being conducted by The Nelson Report to gauge the community’s support for the proposed bond totaling $104 million which may be placed on the ballot for consideration by voters in May 2017. The proposed bond would initially cost property owners an estimated $0.90 per $1,000 of assessed value.
Registered voters will be asked questions that touch on the district’s enrollment growth, the safety and security concerns in the schools, and the challenges that older facilities pose to the district’s current cost of operations.
The first community attitude survey was conducted in April 2016. The results indicated initial support for replacing Rocky Heights Elementary School, building a new elementary school, expanding Hermiston High School, other district-wide improvements such as replacing roofs and replacing old heating and ventilation systems at Sandstone Middle School, and replacing Highland Hills Elementary School.
The results from the second community attitude survey will be shared with the Hermiston School Board as it prepares to make a decision on whether or not the district should consider placing the ballot question before voters in May 2017.
