The National Weather Service in Pendleton is warning local residents to protect themselves from the dangerously high temperatures that have settled in throughout the area. The extreme temperatures means there is a high to very high risk of heat-related illnesses for much of the local population without protection such as air conditioning. Little relief will come over night with lows in the mid-70s.

The weather service advises people to stay indoors between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., stay  hydrated and use the air conditioning if available.
