Hermiston's Alvin Gienger Passes Away at 89

Alvin Robert Gienger passed away peacefully with his wife of 70 years by his side, on Nov. 14, 2016 at Sun Terrace in Hermiston at the age of 89.

He was born on March 18, 1927 in Shasta, Calif., to Robert and Ruby Thompson Gienger. Al grew up on the family ranch on Cottonwood, near Monument. He attended schools in Cottonwood and Monument. Al was united in marriage to Donna Buseick of Long Creek on November 1, 1946. Over the years they lived in Long Creek, John Day, Alaska, Arizona, and various other places before settling in Hermiston. Al worked as a log loader operator and as a truck driver through the years. As one of his favorite John Denver songs said “He was just a plain old country boy.” Al enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and country music.

He is survived by his wife: Donna Gienger, Hermiston, OR; sons: Don Gienger & wife Karen, Keizer, OR & Robert Gienger & wife Cathy, Galveston, TX; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and 4 step grandchildren.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, grandson: Joey, and brother: Ivan.
