Clarence E. Collyer of Hermiston died on Dec. 2, 2017 in Hermiston at the age of 88.
He was born on Feb. 8, 1929 in Mesa County, Colo. to Bessie Stolze.
Clarence was adopted by James Wesley and Faith Collyer, joining sisters Patricia and Sylvia. He married Oberta Moore and they had four children, Carl, Ron, Judy and Wallace, and they later divorced. Clarence married Edna Jones on July 11, 1981 in Hermiston. They adopted two children, Crystal and Bradley, and raised a grandson, Jason Collyer.
Clarence worked for the railroad and woodworkers union, and retired as a custodian at the Hermiston High School. He loved visiting with people and could often be seen sitting on his walker in his yard, waving to people as they drove by or talking with others as they walked by. He was a member of the Hermiston Assembly of God and the Columbia Grange, and former member of the Eagles Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Collyer, Hermiston; children, Ron of Hermiston, Judy of Irrigon, Wally of West Richland, Wash., Crystal of Kennewick, Wash. and Brad of Sunnyside, Wash.; stepchildren, Iris Brood, Emily Mellick, Herbert (Rose) Brood and David Brood, all of Hermiston, Ellen (Vern) Scarrow, Bridgeport, Neb. and Ruth Eddy, Vancouver, Wash.; special grandson, Jason Collyer; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Oberta; son, Carl Collyer; daughter-in-law, Beth Collyer; stepdaughter, Susanna Brood; great grandsons, Andrew, Eric and Zander; brothers, Vernon John and Earl John; and sisters, Sylvia Cheatem and Patricia Bittle.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017 at 12 noon at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston.
Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
