He was born Jan. 8, 1941 at Homerville, Ga., to James Aubrey & Pauline (Booth) Rutherford.
Dan was raised in Albany, Ga. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS De Haven. On Feb. 8, 1962 he married Myra Ackley in Hillsboro. They later divorced. Dan moved to Hermiston in the 1970s. He worked as a Farrier after learning the trade from Oregon State University. Dan was a champion team roper. He was a former member of the Umatilla Sage Riders. He loved to cowboy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Anna Francis.
He is survived by brother, Tom Rutherford of Albany, GA; sisters, Janice Johnson of Albany, GA and Doris Champion of Augusta, GA.
A Memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016 at 4 p.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston.
