Hermiston's Darrell Marlow Passes Away at 83

Darrell LaVern “Vern” Marlow died on Dec. 10, 2015 at home in Hermiston surrounded by his family at the age of 83.

He was born on Jan. 2, 1932 in Pendleton to John LaRoy “Roy” Marlow and Naomi LaVelle Hadley Marlow. Vern was raised in Pendleton, Oregon for a short time and then in Irrigon, Oregon where he graduated from High School in 1950. He then attended Linfield College for a year before he joined the United States Navy. Vern was united in marriage to Elathine “Ella” Parke on October 24, 1951 in Hermiston, Oregon. He served during the Korean conflict in Guam and throughout the South Pacific on an aircraft carrier from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1956. They lived in Seattle, Washington where Vern worked for Boeing as a parts inspector until 1974. They then moved to Umatilla, Oregon where Vern and his brother, John started KLWJ Christian radio station. They returned to Seattle, Washington in 1989. Vern worked for Boeing for a few years and then for TRAMCO until retiring. Vern and Ella moved to Hermiston in 2010 where they have lived since.

His faith was a very important part of his life. Vern served many years as a deacon and on the church council. He was a member of Living Faith Church. He enjoyed naturopathic health, fishing, and reading

He is survived by a son: David Marlow (Darlene), Snohomish, WA; daughters: Joan Reeves (Barry), Hermiston, OR, Natalie Journot, Hermiston; brother: John Larry Marlow, Irrigon, OR; sister: Janice Eppenbach; 9 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren with one on the way; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Vern was preceded in death by his wife: Ella Marlow earlier this year, and his parents.

A celebration of life service was held on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015 at the Living Faith Church, 1611 Diagonal Road, Hermiston, OR 97838. Burial with military honors followed at the Hermiston Cemetery.
