Erna A. Hiigel, a longtime resident of Hermiston, died on June 27, 2017 in Hermiston at the age of 91.
She was born on July 31, 1925 in Boardman to Adolf and Anne Axelgard Skoubo.
She grew up in Boardman, where she graduated from high school. After high school, she attended training to become a registered nurse. She worked in Umatilla and at Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston as a maternity nurse for over 30 years, retiring in the early 1990s.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening and listening to classical music. She was loved by everyone who met her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; daughter, Shannon Powell; son, Dale Scott (Scotty) Hiigel; three sisters; and two brothers.
She is survived by sons Gary and Jim of Hermiston, Larry of Pendleton and Steve of Boardman; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
No services are being planned. Her remains will be laid to rest in the Boardman Cemetery with her parents.
