Hermiston’s Irma Nevil Passes Away at 81

Irma Pauline Nevil of Hermiston died on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017 at the age of 81.

She was born on March 24, 1936 in Eston, Saskatchewan, Canada to Scott and Delilah Thompson Baker.

She lived on her family’s homestead near Eston until the age of 12, when her family moved to Woodburn. She attended school in Woodburn, where she graduated from high school.

She married Daniel Nevil on Nov. 21, 1964. The couple lived and farmed in the Willamette Valley until moving to Stanfield in 1971. They operated a pig farm in Stanfield for several years. Irma later worked as an office manager for several Eastern Oregon auto dealerships until retiring.

She had a strong faith in God and was a member of Stanfield Baptist Church for 40 years. She opened her heart and her home to countless people who needed help. She had a strong love and commitment to her family. After retiring, she traveled extensively and enjoyed her many trips to Alaska with her good friend Dorothy. She also volunteered with many organizations, including Stanfield Planning Commission, Stanfield Library Board and Good Shepherd Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Daniel; brothers, Dale and Gordon; and an infant baby brother.

She is survived by her children, Scott and wife Alicia Nevil of Hermiston, David and wife Heather Nevil of Stanfield, Dani and husband Roger Smith of Hermiston, Tom and wife Heather Baumgartner, and Carolann Jenson; brother, Raymond Baker and his wife Lorraine of Wichita Falls, Texas; sisters-in-law, Pam Baker of Woodburn and Phyllis Meyers of Canby; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday evening, Aug. 9, 2017 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Burns Mortuary of Hermiston.

Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017 at Stanfield Baptist Church, 310 N.E. Wheeler Ave., Stanfield. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery near Stanfield.
