He was born on May 31, 1930 in Olympia, Wash., to Clyde and Delores Smith. John was raised and attended schools in Western Washington. He then joined the United States Navy and served supporting the war effort in Korea. After his honorable discharge he lived in Reno, Nevada and Medford, Oregon before settling in Portland. John was united in marriage to Ann M. Henden in April of 1988 in Portland. He was a long haul truck driver for many years. They moved to Hermiston in January of 2015 where they have lived since. John enjoyed rving, traveling, fishing, hunting, and dogs.
He is survived by his wife: Ann Smith, Hermiston, OR; sons: Jim White & wife Jenny, Hermiston, OR; daughters: Bonny Olson & husband Larry, Beaverton, OR, and Debby Galanopolous & husband Harry, Kennewick, WA; grandchildren: Mindy, Christos, & Thomas; great grandchildren: Harry & Zoey.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
