Hermiston's Larry Smith Passes Away at 74

Larry S. Smith died on Sept. 18, 2016 at his home in Hermiston at the age of 74.

He was born on Feb.11, 1942 in Walla Walla, Wash., to Frederick and Verla Wright Smith. Larry was united in marriage to Sandra Jean Badgett on March 17, 1965 in Silverton. They lived in Salem until moving to Pendleton in 1966 where Larry worked at the flour mill. They returned to Salem in 1970 and Larry worked in construction until the early 1980s. They moved back to Pendleton in 1985 before settling in Hermiston in 1987 where they have lived since. Larry remodeled homes in the area for many years. He returned to work at the flour mill in Pendleton in 1986 and worked there until retiring in 2004. Larry always loved working on cars and was always successful at trading vehicles and coming out ahead. He was a former member of the Eagles Lodge. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years: Sandra Smith, Hermiston; sons: Bob Smith & his wife Belinda, Hermiston, Darryl Smith & his wife Tina, Lewiston, Idaho; daughter: Karen Durkee, Hermiston; sister: Donna Case, Albany; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Stephen Smith.

A celebration of life gathering with an opportunity to share memories of Larry, will be held on Friday, Sept. 23, 2016 at noon at New Hope Community Church, 1350 S. Hwy 395, Hermiston.

At Larry’s request there will be a private family burial will be at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Stanfield.
