She was born Feb. 1, 1933 in Stuart Place, Texas. Maria was raised by Ismeal and Ramona Deleon. She had attended school and grew up in Weslaco, Texas.
Maria had worked at the Weslaco Drug Store where she met her future husband, Francisco Mares. She married Francisco Mares on April 1, 1959 and both raised daughter, Rebecca.
Maria and her husband settled in the Ontario and Vale area for 15 years prior to moving to Hermiston.
Maria and Francisco ran a successful produce stand at their home in Hermiston. She enjoyed greeting customers and always found time to start conversation and welcome new friendships.
Maria was loved by everyone and surrounded herself with friends and family. She enjoyed the company of others and always offered hospitality. Maria spent her time dancing with her husband and never passed up a good yard sale.
Maria is survived by her husband Francisco Mares of Hermiston, Ore; her daughter Rebecca Correa and her husband Cruz G. Correa of Hermiston, Ore; grandchildren Marie Cimmiyotti of Pasco, Wa. Angela M. Como of Hermiston, Ore., Richard Correa of Hermiston, Ore; great grandchildren Brodey Hicks, Asher Cimmiyotti and Vann Como; and siblings living in Texas, Idaho, Arizona and California.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ismeal and Ramona Deleon; sister Angelita Esquival and Petra Deleon; Brothers Juan Deleon, Jesus Deleon and Domingo Tamez
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Hermiston Assembly of God.
