Nicholas Lee “Nick” Phillips died peacefully at his home in Hermiston surrounded by his family on June 22, 2017 at the age of 76.
He was born on Jan. 31, 1941 in Baker City to Donald E. and Gertrude M. Karp Phillips.
He was raised in Ordnance and Hermiston, graduating from Hermiston High School in the class of 1959. He served in the United States Army from Dec. 27, 1962 until he was honorably discharged on Jan. 14, 1966. He worked at Marlette Homes in Hermiston for 38 years before retiring as cabinet shop foreman in 2002.
His love for sports was known by all, with football being his real passion. His childhood passion was art, especially drawing cartoons. He loved bowling, long walks with his wife and going to air shows.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Phillips (they had been together for 33 years); son, Lance Phillips, Washington; daughter, Tina Rogers, Washington; stepson, Thomas Landreth (Nola), California; sister, Rosemary Easton (Richard), Hermiston; brother, Glen Phillips (Pam), California; eight grandchildren; two great grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Anthony Lee “Tony” Phillips; stepson, Ted Landreth; and brothers, Donald R. and Dennis P. Phillips.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston.
Burial with military honors will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
