Richard L. Layton died on July 2, 2017 near Hermiston at the age of 66.
He was born on Jan. 21, 1951 in Pioche, Nev. to Earl and Anna Shipman Layton.
He grew up and attended school in Blue Diamond, Nev., graduating from Las Vegas High School in the class of 1969. After high school, he and his brother Ronald served together in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Mars. After his honorable discharge, he moved back to Nevada, where he resided until moving to Corvallis in the early 1990s. He moved from Corvallis to Hermiston in the late 1990s, where he had resided since.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter and shared his love for the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. He was also very artistic and created many unique pieces of artwork, giving many pieces away to family and friends.
He married Laurie Thorsheim on April 1, 1973 in Las Vegas. The couple divorced many years later.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald.
He is survived by his son, Bill and his wife Tina Layton of Albany; daughter, Malissa Layton of Echo; sister, Connie Ohlandt of Las Vegas, Nev.; brother, Don Layton of Blue Diamond, Nev.; and grandchildren, Derrik, Dustin, Bradley, Maleena and Makhi.
