Richard G. “Rick” Haney died on Aug. 28, 2015 at his home in Hermiston at the age of 63.
He was born on Oct. 21, 1951 in Salem to Robert J. Haney Sr. and Barbara Jean Robins Haney. Rick was raised in Sisters where he participated in junior rodeo and graduated from Redmond High School in 1970. He attended Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton for a time and then returned to Redmond and started his career as a sheet metal fabricator. He spent most of his career as a journeyman in Northeast Oregon working for various commercial contractors. Rick was united in marriage to Jacqueline “Jackie” Prechel on Sept. 13, 2003 in Hermiston. He retired from Apollo Inc. in 2008 because of his health. He was a member of the National and Northwest Sheet Metal Workers Unions. Rick enjoyed hunting, fishing, rodeos, and time with family.
He is survived by his wife: Jackie Haney, Hermiston, OR; brother: Bob Haney, Redmond, OR; sisters: Lorrie Weston, Redmond, OR., & Sherrill Eaton, Madras, OR; a granddaughter: Lindsy; stepchildren: Dan Sheets, Eugene, OR, & Terra Sheets, Tualitan, OR; 3 step granddaughters: Briana, Destany, & Calli; 1 great granddaughter: Carly.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents; and a son: Carl Richard Haney.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at his home on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015 at 2 p.m.
