Hermiston's Shirley Crampton Passes Away

Shirley M. Crampton of Hermiston died on March 21, 2015 in Hermiston at the age of 81.

She was born on Oct. 26, 1933 in Lorain, Ohio to Edward and Isabella Stewart Diewald. Shirley was raised in Rochester, Mich., and later in Gaylord, Mich., where she graduated high school. She was united in marriage to Howard Crampton on July 24, 1963 in Michigan. They moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., in 1976 and later to Sheridan, Wyo., in 1987. In 2001 they moved to Hermiston to be near family. Shirley worked as a waitress over the years and she and Howard owned and operated a restaurant for a time. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting, baking, cooking, and loved cats. Shirley was a proud and supportive grandma who had a very quick wit.

She is survived by her daughter, Candy Smith and her husband Matt, Hermiston; grandson, Sean Smith; and stepgranddaughter, Amy Leigh Dunaisky.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a brother, Richard Diewald.

A private family gathering will be held.
