Virginia “Ginny” Marshall of Hermiston passed away quietly on Sept. 25, 2017 at the age of 86.
She was born on Aug. 18, 1931 in Richland Center, Wis. to Glen and Iris Richards.
Ginny graduated from Richland Center High School in 1949. She married her high school sweetheart, Bob Marshall, on May 17, 1952. Bob and Ginny had a daughter, Luanne, and a son, Roland (nicknamed Rollie, after his uncle), both born in Richland Center. Soon after that, the family moved to Portland, where a second son, William (Bill), was born. Ginny worked for the Beaverton School District and later for the Hermiston School District.
Bob and Ginny used to enjoy “gadding about” together. They loved to just jump in the car and head down the road. They never knew exactly where they might end up, but it usually involved eating at a restaurant in some small town hundreds of miles away, and then heading back home a different route just to take in the scenery.
Ginny is survived by daughter Luanne (Steve) Brownfield of Heppner; sons Rollie (Debbie) Marshall of Ione and Bill (Cheryl) Marshall of Franklin, Mass.; grandchildren, whom she loved very much: Candis (Mike) Smith of La Grande, Brandi (Corey) Sweeney of Heppner, Kristen Marshall of Heppner, Alec (Rachel) Marshall of Harrisburg, Pa., and Kayla Marshall of Franklin, Mass. Ginny also took joy in spending time with her great-grandchildren, Garrett, Gracey and Aspen Smith of La Grande, and Kane and Jorden Sweeney of Heppner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Iris Richards; brother, Nyrval Richards; and her beloved husband, Robert (Bob) Marshall.
Ginny couldn’t talk enough about how proud she was of her daughter, sons, grandkids and great-grandkids. We were all proud of you also, Mom, Grandma and Grandma Great! Now you get to spend time again with Dad “gadding about”.
A private family celebration will be held.
